March 2022 Blog Challenge & Giveaway| Spring Theme: Decoupage

It is now time for the fun to continue with the month of March challenge. The craft I made for this activity is going to be part of a YouTube giveaway on my channel, “Artsy Solutions.” It is a journal insert with many pockets, tucks, and plenty of ephemera. It follows in the theme for this month, “Spring,” with the use of decoupaging techniques and other mixed media artistry. Follow along as you watch the video to create your own masterpiece.

To kick start your craft I am including this free digital ephemera sheet called, “March Blog Freebie 2022 Ephemera Sheet.” It contains two 3″ x 5″ journaling cards, two tags, words, and other ephemera. This kit is high quality 300 dpi and is saved in jpg format. Simply print it out onto 8.5″ x 11″ paper. To access the kit click here.

There in the Photo Albums section you will find this kit and a lot more FREE downloads. Simply like, share, and comment if you will. These kits would look wonderful with your decoupaging images and other materials you choose to use with your prompts.

You must use at least three (3) items from the list. You can combine those 3 items with anything else to add in your creations.

For this month’s challenge I made a decoupaged journal insert. I took a floral napkin, some old book pages, pattern paper, and sheet music to make a collage. I then stitched on some of the bits and pieces to the master board. Next I cut out four mats to use as an accordion writing spot for the insert and continued on with the construction.

I also printed out and added components of the “March Blog Freebie 2022 Ephemera Sheet,” as well as the “New Beginnings” Freebie from the Multimedia Crafts Digital Facebook page.

February Craft Challenge 2022_Love Theme: Using Fabrics

Time for some more crafting fun. You can access this month’s prompts and those for the rest of the year by simply clicking on the “2022 Monthly Craft Challenge” page where you will find a printable copy of the Challenge monthly prompts and hashtags to use for each of your projects.

This February has a love theme and the requirements are for you to use fabric. You must choose between 3 items from the following list:

Cheesecloth
Silk
Jean
Leather (real or faux)
Lace
Doily

You may use other materials to complete your project, including digital printables, paints, papers, and any other media you like. Create something using these prompts as often as you like in the month of February. When sharing your art remember to use hashtag #febfav2022.

I am merging the craft challenge of this month with a blog train freebie I created in collaboration with other Pixel Scrapper artists.

January Favorite Craft Challenge 2022_Winter Theme: Using Inks

Are you ready to get started on the 2022 Craft Favorite Challenge? You can access the whole years worth of prompts on the “2022 Monthly Craft Challenge” page where you can find a printable copy of the Challenge monthly prompts and hashtags to use for each of your projects.

For January, the prompt is for you to make something with a winter theme using at least three of the following types of ink:

*Ink Spray

*Distress inks

*Paint

*Alcohol ink

*Printer refill ink

*Ink pen (ballpoint, magic marker, sharpie, highlighter, etc..)

You can use these with other components in your project including this monthly freebie called, “January Craft Challenge 2022” if you would like. To access it click here.

Share your project (s) using the hashtag #janfav2022. You may make and share multiple projects for each month. I always navigate towards a Victorian Era style in my crafts.

For my January winter themed project I used all the inks except for the printer refill. I included ink spray, distress ink, paint, alcohol marker, and a ballpoint pen. The supplies are shown in the photos below to demonstrate how I used them in my craft.

This trifold pocket folio is a double sided storage piece that can be added to travelers notebooks, scrapbooks and more. I love to create junk journals and fill them up with various papers, fabrics, envelopes, tags, pockets, and all sorts of hidden goodies inside. Since I love everything with a vintage, shabby chic vibe, I added some decoupage images to the background along with some fussy cut and die cut shapes, and stitched along the edges of the folio as well as on some of the other tags and other nostalgic elements to complete the look I was seeking.

Supplies used

Used Sargent Paints Prussian Blue and White

Painted on mixed Blue color

Gold Mica paint

To create the folio, I took an 8.5″ x 11″ piece of paper and dyed it using some watercolor paint. I came back through and put some drops of gold minc paint to the page.

Once it was dry, I folded the paper on the 11″ side at about 4″ to create pockets. Next I folded the paper on the 8.5″ side at about 5.5″ on both ends to form a trifold in it. I made sure that the edges were burnished.

I then took some white cardstock and measured out six pieces to mat both sides of the folio flaps. I cut them out, distressed them using Tim Holtz Walnut Stain Distress ink, and glued them on as background pieces. Then I took them to the sewing machine and stitched around the edges, making sure that the folded flap on the 11″ side was flush with the paper while getting sewn. That’s how the pockets were formed.

I used various brands of embellishments to garnish the folio including the freebie sheet from Multimedia Crafts Digital called, “January Craft Challenge 2022”. I printed and cut out all of the elements in it.

With the snowflake I took a ballpoint pen and highlighted parts of the image with it, and then I added some Glossy Accents by Ranger on bits of it to give it a shiny finish.

I glued the tag and journal card to a piece of coffee dyed paper and stitched around the edge of both. I took a scrap of fabric and added it to the journal card along with a fussy cut out image of a winter scene.

I took a decorative napkin with a bird and decoupaged it to a piece of white cardstock. Then I matted it to one of the folio flaps.

Next, I took another piece of scrap white cardstock and some Broken China Distress Oxide ink and shaded in the blue to make a snowy hill background. After distressing the paper I cut out hills and glued them together. I then added the piece of die cut houses from the “Momenta” die and added them to the front of the hills. I took that unit and created a tuck spot on the center flap of the folio.

The rest of the it was garnished with sewn notebook pieces, stamped script, words and other elements from the “January Craft Challenge 2022” freebie sheet that was distressed with “Walnut Stain Distress ink” and “Firefly Alcohol markers.

I finally took a piece of torn checkerboard fabric and stitched one side of it on to form the closure.

New Year Monthly Craft Challenge For 2022

I hope that everyone has had a great Christmas Holiday and are prepared for more exciting projects in the upcoming year. I want to inspire and encourage creativity. I challenge you to make a favorite craft that you have either already made or have seen someone else make. You can get your inspiration from any type of platform including YouTube, Instagram, Facebook groups, blogs, and more. Create something once a month. It can be anything from mixed media, junk journals, scrapbooks, tags, cards, gift bags, home decor or whatever tickles your fancy. Post your creations on social media platforms to provide even more inspiration for others. We all love seeing them. Let’s share in the fun!

November 2021 Blog Train Freebie

Get ready to accent photos of your family, friends, and festivities of the fall season. Take pictures of your turkey, assuming you are able to acquire one during these times of supply shortages. Capture memories of your trips to the mountains, or beautiful foliage mirages from various landscapes.

Wherever you get your images from you can use the freebie kit, “Evening Owl November 2021 Blog Train.” It is part of a collaboration of other artists from Pixel Scrapper.

You have many possibilities when using the “Evening Owl November 2021 Blog Train” kit. You can make digital editions of photos using Photoshop or some other editing software. However you are not limited to just virtual illustrations. You can also print and craft with the same graphics.

In the photo at the beginning of this blog, I added some elements from the freebie kit and developed a fallish, Thanksgiving layout. But, I was also able to create some hybrid crafts as well using the same kit. In the slide show below I used a combination of the freebie digitals as well as the “Warm Harvest” digital kit found on the “Multimedia Crafts Digi” etsy shop. I coupled the images with downloaded papers, and stitched on fabrics and scrap pieces from my stash.

The main background papers are from the blog train freebie. Although they came in size 12″ x 12″ I copied and pasted them into an 8.5″ x 11″ file using Photoshop and then printed them out along with the ephemera sheet from the kit.

Ocean Themed Projects: Interactive Card Ideas

Still hanging on to the warm summery weather before fall sets in? You can make some fun and exciting projects with an ocean, beachy them to it.

You can start out by using this freebie kit called, “Ocean Slider Card Template”. It is very versatile. You can make interactive activities using it. Make greeting cards, shaker cards, journal and scrapbook cover embellishments and much more.

The templates are all high quality 300 dpi and comes with both a jpg file which has a white background and a png file, that has a transparent background. The png file makes it easy for you to upload the template into die cutting software, such as Cricut Design Space so that you can use your machine to die cut the images. It is very easy to assemble.

You can add colors, paints, glitter, glossy accents, and all manner of mixed media to decorate your slider card. Before assembling your template, distress or color your background, water, and whale pieces in the hue you want them. Finally you can assemble it. The completed project is really cute with added embellishments such as those shown below.

Paper Owl Template

Get ready for your fall diy projects early. Like owls? Here is a FREE owl template that is great for many projects. Simply download it, print it, and cut the shapes out. Next trace the cut shapes on your favorite papers. Cut those out and glue them together to form your owl. This freebie is high quality 300 dpi and is saved in jpg format. This template is really great for back-to-school crafts for kids and adults. I created it by tracing around an owl that I bought from the Dollar Tree. I then found some bottles with two different circular shapes to trace around to form eyes. I made a beak and a hat for the owls as well. To watch the process click the video below.
